When Your Water Heater Fails Call SERVPRO®

7/11/2022 (Permalink)

Failure to check your hot water heater on a regular basis can result in water and mold damage.

Rarely is a hot water heater right out in the open like a couch, or television.  They are usually out of sight, which leads them to be out of mind. A hot water heater can have a water line fail, or even the holding tank can form a leak.  If it is a small leak the moisture from the closet being closed will begin to form mold.  Mold in itself is a major issue as it can cause health issues.  Not until the water line actually forms a larger hole allowing the water to escape through the bottom of the door, which allows the water to infiltrate into the adjoining room, or rooms.  The water supply will nee to be cut off, and the hot water heater removed.  Once this is done SERVPRO can begin a water mitigation, and once completely dried out can begin a mold remediation. SERVPRO will get you back to "Like it never even happened."

SERVPRO® Is Prepared 24/7 For Your Disaster Needs

SERVPRO Water Technicians arrive in a short time to assess the best plan for your business.  Our SERVPRO Crew Chief will begin the paperwork with you while the rest of the crew begins the water extraction and clean up.  Furniture will be moved if necessary, and office contents moved, or boxed up for safe storage.  Once the water extraction is completed, the drying process begins.  Depending on the amount of water will determine the number of days.  A technician will return daily to monitor the drying process.  Once the drying process is completed a mold remediation is done.  This will help to ensure that mold will not form.  At SERVPRO we value your business and want you back to business “Like it never even happened.”

Water Damage Can Happen In Levels Not Used On A Regular Basis

6/22/2022 (Permalink)

Check all levels and rooms throughout your home to avoid unnecessary water damage

Sometimes in homes that are multi-level and there is only two living in the home, it's generally because the kids are grown and gone. When there is a lower level, it is easy to go days or weeks without going downstairs. There is potential for damage if you have a downstairs bathroom and a water line breaks. The water can run for days causing heavy water damage. At this residence, the water did run for days, and the water covered the entire downstairs. The lower level had two bedrooms, a game room, storage room, and bathroom.  There was carpet throughout, all of which had to be removed.  The drywall acted as a wick and the water line on the walls went up several feet.  From the floor up to four feet had to be removed from the drywall. SERVPRO removed and hauled off the debris.

If you have a multi-level home, it is best to check the different levels on a regular basis to avoid unnecessary damage.  If you do  suffer a water loss call SERVPRO, we will get you back to “Like it never even happened.”

SERVPRO0® Reminds You To Keep Hydrated In The Heat

6/5/2022 (Permalink)

Stay safe, and stay hydrated in the heat

Scientifically, and medically there is an explanation as to why the humidity makes the heat so much harder on the body. Our body has its own cooling system, which works by producing perspiration or sweat. When sweat or perspiration evaporates it gives the skin the cooling effect. We know that hot weather can tax the body, but did you know that High Humidity causes our physical cooling system to strain, as the humidity makes it harder for the sweat to evaporate? Extreme Heat causes many to lose their lives each year. There are risks for each of us if not hydrating properly, but those at the highest risk are the young, sick, old and overweight. There are many illnesses in conjunction with Extreme Heat. HEAT STROKE is caused by the body’s own air conditioning unit when it stops working. HEAT CRAMPS are muscle spasms that usually involve the legs and abdomen. This is the direct result of dehydration and can be the first sign someone is getting dangerously hot. HEAT EXHAUSTION is very serious, and more serious than cramps. The skin will be cold and clammy. The person needs cool cloths, and sips of water every 15 minutes. If there is vomiting, seek medical help.

At SERVPRO you are family, and we want you safe, and healthy. We Care. #HereToHelp #KeepCool #KeepHydrated

Got Mold?? No Worries On The Wat The Way To Get You "Like It never even happened."

2/10/2022 (Permalink)

Keep a checklist to be sure you have not missed any moisture activators, or water lines.

When storms roll through town there is no specific target, what we do know, is that  SERVPRO is available 24/7 to immediately assist with your needs.  Time matters when it comes to cutting the cost, or damage that can be caused. Microscopic mold spores naturally occur almost everywhere, both outdoors and indoors. This makes it impossible to remove all mold from a home or business. Therefore, mold remediation reduces the mold spore count back to its natural or baseline level. It is a fallacy that all mold can be removed. Mold spores can quickly grow into colonies when exposed to water. These colonies may produce allergens and irritants. Before mold remediation can begin, any sources of water or moisture must be addressed. Otherwise, the mold may return. Mold often produces a strong musty odor and can lead you to possible mold problem areas. Keep indoor humidity below 45 percent. High humidity in a home can support mold growth. If your home or business has a mold problem, we can inspect and assess your property and provide mold remediation services as needed.

Frozen Pipes Can Lead To Water Damage And When It Does Call SERVPRO

11/2/2021 (Permalink)

When a pipe is frozen it expands, and eventually ruptures. SERVPRO is Here To Help when your faced with Water Damage

Frozen water pipes are a reoccurring issue which occurs once the temperatures drop below freezing. Statistically it is proven that frozen pipes are one of the biggest risks of property damage when the temperature drops. This is more prevalent in regions where the temperature can significantly drop. Lower temperatures can cause the water to expand, which puts pressure on the pipes, or storage container, causing the pipe to break, or container to burst. Once there is a compromise to the water system, or storage unit the ensuing water can cause water damage, and potentially turn into an emergency.

First the home or business with the water damage must quickly be evaluated for the safety of anyone in the home, or business. Be sure there is nothing electric in, or around the water damage to cause either an electrical fire, or electrocution. Make sure there are no ‘slip and fall’ hazards. If it is not safe, keep out and dial 911 for help. Once all is secure regarding safety precautions, shut off the water if you can.

Call SERVPRO for water damage to your home, or business. We want to get you back to “Like it never even happened.”

SERVPRO Documents All Contents Whether Salvageable Or Unsalvageable

10/5/2021 (Permalink)

SERVPRO provides a contents pack out after a fire in a home. Everything is documented, the unsalvageable items are also documented, and inventoried.

Once a fire has been extinguished, and a water remediation is in process, it is important to begin addressing contents that have been exposed to fire, smoke, soot, and water.  Everything is checked individually, and determined as to whether it is salvageable, or unsalvageable.  Every object is inventoried, and if unsalvageable is recorded and readied for the Insurance Adjuster to examine for loss purposes.

Anything that is deemed salvageable is boxed up and brought to the SERVPRO Warehouse to be cleaned by the Contents Crew.  Depending on the level of heat objects are exposed to during the fire will help determine if it is salvageable as the integrity can become compromised. When the SERVPRO Contents Crew comes across an object that has been compromised it too will be inventoried and placed separate from the salvageable contents.

At SERVPRO we want you back to “Like it never even happened.”

SERVPRO Recommends You Check Your Hot Water Heater On A Regular Basis

7/7/2021 (Permalink)

SERVPRO Recommends Moving Your Refrigerator Occasionally If You Have A Water Line Attached

7/7/2021 (Permalink)

Checking your water line to your refrigerator to help to avoid extensive water damage and mold.

When a water supply line to the refrigerator goes unchecked there is potential that a water leak can develop.  Once the leak starts and goes without notice there is potential for not just water damage, but mold can and will develop as well.  As you can see in the picture there was water damage which also affected the floor below, and mold had developed. Should you discover water damage and/or mold damage, call SERVPRO. Our technicians are IICRC Certified and will walk you through the steps that need to be taken for a complete dry out. A Water Mitigation will be the first step, and depending on the extent of water damage will determine the number of days for the drying process.  Normally it is three days.  Once completely dried a Mold Remediation will be performed to avoid the potential of mold in the future.

We can help get you back to "Like it never even happened."

Heat Exhaustion Is Serious Be Sure To Stay Hydrated

7/1/2021 (Permalink)

For your safety if you are working or playing outdoors be sure to keep hydrated.

There are risks for each of us if not hydrating properly, but those at the highest risk are the young, sick, old and overweight. Scientifically and medically, there is an explanation as to why the humidity makes the heat so much harder on the body. HEAT EXHAUSTION is profoundly serious, and more serious than cramps. The skin will be cold and clammy. The person needs cool cloths, and sips of water every 15 minutes. If there is vomiting, seek medical help. At SERVPRO we care and we are Here to Help.

At SERVPRO you are family, and we want you safe, and healthy

SERVPRO Suggests A Regular Maintenance Schedule For Your HVAC System

6/28/2021 (Permalink)

Got Mold? Call SERVPRO

Changing seasons should correlate with the maintenance of your HVAC system.  Also, the filter to your system should be changed on a regular basis.  If your HVAC intake is in a closet, or a location where you cannot see it, it is important to locate the HVAC and physically view the component so make sure you are not developing mold.  Mold can develop without your knowledge and move throughout your entire system affecting the duct work as well. Once the duct work has been affected the mold spores can be distributed throughout your entire home, or office.  Once this happens there is the potential that the health of those frequenting the home, or business can have their health compromised.  Mold must be properly addressed to assure proper removal.

If you think you have mold call SERVPRO and we will get you back to “Like it never even happened.”

Unattended Lower Level of Home Suffers Heavy Water Damage

6/28/2021 (Permalink)

SERVPRO Has Trained Technicians To Handle Your Contents

5/21/2021 (Permalink)

SERVPRO trains their technicians on how to properly handle contents that have suffered fire or water damage.

Improper Ventilation Behind Breakroom Refrigerator Causes Mold

2/16/2021 (Permalink)

You have contacted SERVPRO to remove the mold you discovered behind your refrigerator. As you watch the crew work you are in awe as they put up what appears to be a plastic room between the dining room and living room. You ask the relevance of such a room, and the SERVPRO Technician is happy to explain the necessity of setting up a safe place to clean off their bags and tools. This zone will help to prevent contamination to clean parts of the room, home, or business.

What caused the mold is too much moisture in the air, due to poor ventilation in the home. Either a window, or ventilation fan is needed to properly disperse the moisture, so it does not set on the ceilings, or walls. Mold can not only damage the home, or business, but can also be a health risk to those who occupy the home or business. At SERVPRO our technicians are certified to carefully remove the mold, thus bringing your home or business back to a safe environment.

Kitchen Fires Usually Begin at an Unattended Stove

1/27/2021 (Permalink)

SERVPRO received many calls for house fires that have started at the kitchen stove

SERVPRO has been called several times for kitchen fires that could have been avoided had the source been attended. It is so easy to set a pot on the stove only to leave the kitchen and get sidetracked with yet another distraction. In the blink of an eye your home can be enveloped by fire. You could be displaced from your home, belongs lost, treasured pictures, memories in the form of heirlooms, and daily needed articles damaged, or permanently destroyed. And yes, if we are going to be real here, the ultimate loss would be loss of life.

SERVPRO cares, and to help you avoid a kitchen fire, I have listed below key elements that are fire-related hazards in a kitchen. Happy and safe cooking from all of us at SERVPRO.

Fire-related hazards in a kitchen include:

  • Flames, sparks and hot gases from food preparation can ignite residues in exhaust ducts.
  • Food preparation equipment left without supervision during operation.
  • Failure to switch-off equipment, especially at the end of activity.
  • Overheated oils that can lead to spontaneous combustion.
  • Food preparation equipment based on solid fuels.
  • Gas blowtorches used for browning some foods.
  • Poorly operating thermostats or lack of thermostat or fault-detecting equipment
  • Faulty or overheating electrical equipment.
  • Metal exhaust flues that conduct heat and ignite nearby material, or debris.
  • Ovens without igniters/pilot lights (lit with burning pieces of paper).

With Freezing Temps Comes a Rise in Broken Water Lines

11/11/2020 (Permalink)

It is important to check your indoor and outdoor water lines to be sure they will not freeze. A broken water line can cause extensive water damage.

With winter upon us, and the temperatures dropping, we are already beginning to see, and hear about frozen pipes, which lead to water damage.

Call SERVPRO for a Professional Mold Remediation

7/29/2020 (Permalink)

Mold can be invasive to your home or business. SERVPRO technicians are trained to remove the mold to get you back to "Like it never even happened."

Before mold remediation can begin, any sources of water, or moisture must be addressed. Otherwise, the mold may return. Mold often produces a strong musty odor and can lead you to possible mold problem areas, or health issues. Keep indoor humidity below 45 percent. High humidity in a home can support mold growth. If your home or business has a mold problem, we can inspect and assess your property. Should you have mold SERVPRO will provide a Mold Remediation for your home, or business.

Fun in the sun can become hazardous to your health if you're not properly hydrating

7/22/2020 (Permalink)

Beware of too much Fun in the Sun

Scientifically and medically there is an explanation as to why the humidity makes the heat so much harder on the body.
